Dana Point

This year there has been an increase in whale and shark sightings. There are many whale watching cruises all over California. I went to the Dana Wharf Sporting and Whale Watching. You can purchase tickets online on their website or you can go in person to The Dana Wharf Sporting and Whale and purchasing tickets. If you do not see any whales during your trip, you will receive a complimentary ticket for a future visit. You will see dolphins which are always fun to see. Make sure to take a good camera because you will take some pretty spectacular pictures. Food is sold on board the cruise. You can purchase alcoholic beverages and nonalcoholic beverages. I do recommend eating in a restaurant, not because the food on the cruise is bad but because there are many place to eat at. There is a variety of restaurants, from Mexican food to Italian, there is plenty to eat. Make sure you wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and layers of clothing because it can be very windy. There is plenty to s...

Big Bear

In California, we have been seeing some big storms this month. It has been years since we have seen storms like the ones we have been experiencing. It is the perfect time to go out and take advantage of the snow. Head out to Big Bear. You can go for a day or book a hotel or cabin for the weekend. There is much to see and whatever you don't get to see, can be saved for another day. You will have to check the Big Bear website for condition updates. On the website you will see if you need tire chains or not. If you don't have snow wear then you can just dress in layers and pack a change of clothes including socks. Shoes are important since the snow will more than likely get inside your shoe and freeze your feet. You can get away with wearing rain boots just make sure to wear a pair of fluffy socks. You will not be able to resist the urge to have a snowball fight so pack some gloves otherwise your snowball fight will be cut short and your fingers will be in pain. Once you are ...

Universal Studios Hollywood

After reading the books or watching all 8 films, or both, you may have wished that an owl would arrive to your window or if you are really lucky, a giant. That you would be invited to join the magical world in which Harry Potter has had so many wonderful adventures. Yet, an owl never came to your window to deliver that important letter that would come bearing the news that you were accepted to Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There is no need to be discouraged, Universal Studios opened on April 7th, 2016, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You may be thinking that since it is in a theme park it may not be accurate or completely immerse you. I assure you that you will in fact feel as if you are walking in Hogsmeade. The shops and pubs are all very realistic. You can even hear Moaning Myrtle in the women's restroom. Butterbeer is sold on the street in barrel type dispensaries. You can even go inside the Owl Post and purchase postcards, and official Harry Potter stamps....

The Broad

The Broad is a free museum located on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. It is a new contemporary art museum that was founded on September 2015.  Its innovative design captivates you. With two floors of art that is constantly changing. While a few fan favorites stay like the Tulips piece, many other pieces of art are moved. The constant changes guarantee that every time you visit there is something new to see. There are two ways to visit the museum. You can go online to The Broad website and reserve tickets. Tickets do book fast so do not be discouraged, it may take up to a month or two for you to be able to visit the museum. If you do not want to wait too long you can go the day you plan to visit, there is an onsite standby line. Keep in mind admission into the museum from the standby line is first come, first serve. The wait time can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how busy the museum is. The onsite standby line closes 90 minutes before the museum does, s...

LA County Arboretum & Botanic Garden

Seems like these days everyone is out hiking and outdoors taking fantastic pictures. Usually you have to drive a couple hours to get to a great hiking location and you end up having to tread up a mountain. Once you get to the top, your heart hurts and you are sweating bullets. It is fun and you take amazing pictures. Luckily if you are looking to get your heart pumping and also take some amazing pictures without a long drive, there is the Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanic Garden. There is a fee to enter the Arboretum but it is $9 for adults and $4 for children and there is free parking. The great thing about the Arboretum is that you walk for hours and see so much. It is located in the city of Arcadia, east of Pasadena and it is next to Santa Anita Park. It is located in a very urban area but once inside the Arboretum you no longer feel as if you are in the city. The Arboretum is 127 acres of plants, natural landscapes, wildlife, historical buildings, sitting areas, and plenty o...

Las Vegas for Otakus and Geeks

Las Vegas is notorious for being the place to party. The motto is "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." Partying endlessly may sound appealing to some, others may be left thinking "where is the anime?!" Thankfully there is much else to see in LasVegas, especially if you are a fan of anime or superheroes. You can visit the Chinatown Mall. There is a wide variety of stores. There are many bakeries, cafes with boba, bookstores, markets, and plenty of eateries. There is a store called Great Wall Bookstore that has a great variety of products. There are boxes full of stickers, a table with a wide variety of journals, anime merchandise, Studio Ghibli merchandise, novelty items, purses, and a variety of Chinese books. This is a great location to find affordable anime items and stationary. Now if you are a fan of comic books, there is a really good comic book store in Las Vegas. It is called Alternate Reality Comics, located in Pioneer Plaza. There is a good variety of...

New in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a great and affordable location to travel to. Whether you like thrills, shopping, art, ambiance, scenery, food, architecture or just curious to see what Las Vegas has to offer, there is plenty to see. The beauty of Las Vegas is that it is ever-changing. One of the newest updates in Las Vegas is that many hotels are charging to park in the self-parking structures. If you are staying in a hotel that charges for self-parking, you will be charged $8 per day. There are still hotels that are free. To save some money on the trip, there are many free trams that connect you to different hotels and can leave you closer to other hotels, that way you don't have to worry about parking fees. A tram connects Monte Carlo, Crystal, and Bellagio. The benefit of this connection is that you can exit Bellagio and cross the street to Planet Hollywood and Paris.  A tram also connects Mirage and Treasure Island. Riding the tram systems can make walking through the strip much easier and ent...
